See Wee Restaurant

I was my husband's 40th birthday and he said, it's not like every day you turn forty. Since I don't really cook, it was off to the Country we went for a good Southern cooked meal at the See Wee Restaurant.  If you have never been, it has a charm all on it's own. In a way it reminded us of our favorite Mom & Pop place close to home, The  WANDO DINER (now run by the son) but See Wee Restaurant  was fancier for a 40th birthday dinner, plus it had been written up in Southern Living Magazine.  Collard greens, fried okra and squash isn't my idea of a perfect meal, but my husband wanted some good Southern Cooking, See Wee Style for his special birthday.

When we sat down we read the nightly specials written on the dry erase board.  My husband, a serious Tri-athlete, is always on the look out for a good pasta dish. His choice for his birthday dinner was the Grilled Shrimp with tomato basil cream sauce with lump crabmeat over PASTA!  I chose the combo of 2 sea food dishes off the dinner menu. Everything was wonderful and it kept getting better as they brought out each dish.  Even the sweet tea was perfect.

Hush puppies are served shortly after you are seated and who would think that corn meal fried up in oil could taste so good?   Gene's dinner special came with a toss salad that was served with an out of this world vinegar base dressing, an product that should be sold. I ordered a cup of She Crab Soup. Their She Crab Soup is served with the shot of sherry wine on the side. This so far has been my favorite She Crab soup recipe.

When saw  my shrimp and scallops See Wee style dinner arrive, I knew I ordered the right dish for me. I had tried another restaurants shrimp and scallops after getting hooked at the Anchor Line out towards Folly Beach, but nothing had quit matched those juicy scallops till now. One bite, I was in love! Included with my entree was 3 sides. I choice mash potatoes and gravy, onion rings (the best ever) and some fried green tomatoes that could have been absolute  perfect if there was a special dipping sauce.  I admit  on their own they were still some of the best fried green tomatoes I have had, I just prefer a dipping sauce. That was my only complaint.

Gene's dish was one of the best pasta dish he has had  while living in the state of South Carolina.  I was glad he was happy with his dinner, since this is the way I cook dinner!

We found out if it's your birthday, The See Wee Restaurant will buy you dessert.  He choice: the Chocolate Silk pie.  I didn't think anything could get any better after having the perfect sweetened tea, hush puppies that you couldn't keep a hush on, she crab soup that should be award winning and the perfect seasoned shrimp and scallops, but the dessert was the best.

The dinners were a little higher than what I had remembered years ago, but they are very fair for the quality food you get.  The food was unforgettable and the service was Mom & Pop team style. Everyone helped everyone meaning you didn't get ignored.

Now there are a few drawl backs to the See Wee Restaurant.  It's a little farther out from town for some folks, but I promise, it is worth the drive. You know you are out in the country when you have to walk outside to use the restrooms.  It is part of the charm.   Our last visit was on a cold winter night with a little bit of drizzle... I wasn't finding charm at that time, but it does make it fun to think you have to go outside like you are out in the country... Oh Wait, you ARE out in the country.  I hope you enjoy the restaurant as much as we did. Remember to save room for dessert! 100_5547.jpg (45915 bytes)
